As a source of various substances, medicinal plants have always been required to man. Unfortunately, the use of plants has often been converted into devastation because of the search for arable land. This has often lead to the destruction of forests and green areas as a most devastating action of man in relation to the plant world. By the destruction of forests, man has changed and the soil and climate. The development of civilization has caused a major change in the nature.
Only in recent times, mostly because of scientific reasons, a new idea was born in the cultural world. An idea that the nature needs to be protected. This resulted with time and institutions whose primary task is to protect endangered species of rare plants and animals have been formed. We adopted special laws that prescribe the way of utilizing whole plants and plant communities, especially forests. Specifically individual plants are protected, which for whatever reason have become rare, mostly due to the excessive and irrational exploitation.
Collecting medicinal plants is allowed by law, but some of those plants should be protected since we do not want some of them to get endangered. This can easily happen because the gathering of medicinal plants deals with many ignorant people who usually care only about profits. One should always in have in mind while collecting medicinal herbs, that there will also be other people collecting herbs, and that some of them should also be left for these people too. That way, others will benefit the same way as you did too, and at the same time, the location where one picked a certain species, won’t lose that particular species, but it will continue to grow and spread on that place in the future as well.
