Hundreds of schools have been forced to remain closed after the Christmas holidays as the cold winter weather continues to sweep across many parts of Britain. The fact that there is a shortage of heating oil or gas is the main reason behind the closure of most of these schools. Shockingly one school had to close when they realised that their heating oil supply had actually been stolen by thieves.
Many schools were forced to keep their heating systems going during the cold weather and this resulted in a lot of oil being used while the school was closed. Because of this a lot of schools had much less oil when they returned for business and now emergency deliveries of heating oil are eagerly awaited. Frozen oil pipes were another reason for some schools being unable to reopen. The length of time that this period of cold weather has lasted has surprised many people and especially the severity of the snowfalls. There are no signs of improvement for the immediate future and snow has been lying in many areas across the country for nearly three weeks now.
Schools have been targeted by thieves who are stealing heating oil especially because of the fact that they were all closed for the Christmas holidays. Thieves took 1000 litres of heating oil from the school in question, stated police sources. There were other schools that had diminishing oil supplies on their return because their smart heating systems were designed to come on as soon as the temperature dropped below a certain level. Oil supplies in these schools were ever decreasing over the holidays as the temperatures remained below freezing for much of the time.
Many people are finding it impossible to get out of their homes and get to work because of the weather. And with hundreds of schools being forced to close, there are many parents out there who simply cannot get to work because they have no one to care for their children.
